Suddenly, everything seemed dangerous. I started asking questions and doing some digging. Did you know that our skin is our largest organ? Or that women use an average of 12 products per day, which results in hundreds of chemicals being applied during just their morning routine? Or that the European Union has banned over 1400 harmful chemicals in their personal care products, while the U.S. has banned only 30? That most chemicals are hidden under the label “fragrance” and that could mean any hundreds of chemical? That 1938 was the last time a law was passed to regulate what goes in our products? I had no idea. First I was overwhelmed, then I was angry. Then I made some changes.
I fell in love with the company’s advocacy efforts. The didn’t just talked…the walked. Right into Washington D.C. to lobby for changes to the personal care industry across the board. They never made anything about personal gain. We DESERVE to know what we’re putting on our bodies…on our KIDS bodies. I stick around because it’s truly become a passion to educate others on the lack of safety regulation and, honestly, I’m mad about it and this gives me a constructive platform to be a voice for change. It also helps that I now not only have the most beautiful skin of my life (even postpartum!) but I can sleep at night knowing that what I use and, more importantly, what I put on my family is free of chemicals and substances that could potentially cause them harm in the short and long term.
There are many ways to make your voice heard, and I’d love to chat with you about some of them. Always feel free to shoot me a message.
